Books About the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model of ELD
This book is a must-read for all teachers who have second language learners
in their classroom. The SIOP model is an effective instructional model for teaching English language development (ELD) and
sheltered instruction. The book outlines eight components that are essential for effective ELD instruction: lesson planning
and preparation, building background, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, practice/application, lesson delivery,
and review/assessment. The book contains classroom vignettes, a cd with videos by the authors, ELD lesson plan templates and
sample ELD instructional strategies. The SIOP model also includes a lesson reflection and observation protocol where teachers
can observe their peers or be observed by a coach in order to reflect on the implementation of each of the SIOP components.
